DIY Hair

These are the results of my first ever self flat iron! Not too shabby i'd say. Tonight i'm going to go back to my natural hair and attempt my first ever flat twist out! Stay tuned for the results of that!

As I mentioned in my last post, i've decided to let my current stylist go. While I absolutely LOVED the super straight relaxed look she gave my hair, it resulted in heat damage beyond belief. I believe the damage was a combination of

1. too much heat (blowdryer, pressing comb, and flat iron)
2. not using heat protectant
3. me not caring properly for my hair at home

I've now taken it upon myself to care for my hair 100% myself at home. My current regimen is

Wash 1x a week with Aubrey Organics HSR conditioner
Rotate ApHogee reconstructor and deep condtioning with Aubrey SR/olive oil/coconut oil weekly (once my hair becomes stronger, I will use ApHogee less frequently)
Moisturize nightly with Cantu Shea butter leave in, seal with coconut oil
Wrap hair every night with silk scarf
& last but not least, rotate between straight and no heat hair styles

I found these videos really helpful in learning how to care for my hair at home, hopefully my readers will too!

I tried to embed them, but blogger isn't letting me, so here are links instead!

Also, I forgot to mention in my last post that my hair is growing out quite nicely since the trim I got in January, it's already back to APL in the front! I'm going to make it my goal to make BSL this year!
Hello all,

I just finished my first quarter at a university after transferring from a community college and WOW! it got the best of me. I'm speaking in terms of finances and time! To cope with the cost of university I decided to cut my time at the salon WAY down, from 2x a month, to every three weeks and now i'm working toward every six weeks or so, and hopefully will be able to get it down even lower.

My hair has been a lot dryer than usual so today I did a deep condition (V05 moisture milks/coconut oil/olive oil) and blow out. It was actually my first time EVER doing a heat style at home, i'm proud of myself! I'll try and post pictures tomorrow after I wrap it to get a little more shape. I'll probably rock it for a few days, then go into a braid out. I'm going to challenge myself to not only no hairdresser, but no heat styles for a month! Wish me luck!
